Temporary File Failure When attempting a Backup

Warning message received during the backup process that states “Temporary File Failure”

Symptoms:

“Temporary File Failure” message when trying to do a backup.

Cause:

This could be caused by one or more of the following issues:

  • Lack of Permissions to the drive being backed up to.
  • The drive being backed up to does not have sufficient free space to save the file.
  • The operating system hard drive on the server does not have sufficient free space to temporarily store the data that is being backed up.
  • The operating system hard drive on the local computer does not have sufficient free space to temporarily store the data that is being backed up.

    Resolution:

First check for sufficient free space on your server and local workstation’s hard drive. Also check for sufficient free space on the drive you are backing up too. To get an estimate of how much free space you need check the size of the DATA folder within the RM2000 or RMA folder. You will need approximately 2x as much free space as the size of the DATA folder.

If you have confirmed space is not an issue, check the permissions for the user you are logged on your network with, and make sure they have permission to create a temp file on the operating system drive as well as create a file on the destination drive of the backup.
